Top Market Trends in Automotive Domain: 2019

Automotive Trends in 2019

The year 2019 witnessed numerous strategic developments and disruptions in the automotive sector. Topics such as intelligent tyres and sensors, ADAS and autonomous vehicles, off-highway vehicle telematics, electric vehicles, and automotive cybersecurity were the highlights of the automotive sphere this year.

Launch of the low-voltage (48 V) all-electric urban vehicle prototype by Valeo in April’19; acquisition of Masternaut, one of the largest European telematics providers by Michelin in May’19; launch of fuel-efficient tires to help fleets optimize performance of their vehicles by Bridgestone in June’19 are some exemplary developments that occurred in the automotive domain in 2019.

BIS Research has been tracking the emerging trends in technologies in the automotive domain for numerous years. Key highlights of our market intelligence topics covered in 2019 have been mentioned below:

Automotive Intelligent Tire and Sensor

The U.S. market held the largest share, i.e. 22.45%, in the global automotive intelligent tire and sensor market in 2018. In 2024, China is anticipated to hold the largest market share (38.51%). The China automotive intelligent tire and sensor market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.06%, during the period 2019-2024. The market is mainly driven by the massive amount of vehicle sales in the country, along with the recent regulation of mandating TPMS sensors in all new vehicles. Also, various TPMS manufacturers and suppliers along with various tire sensor component suppliers are present in the country, which drives the growth of TPMS sensors in China. (REPORT SAMPLE)

Vision and Navigation System for Autonomous Vehicle

The vision and navigation system market for autonomous vehicle is tracked along the lines of components (camera, LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic sensor, GPS, and IMU), software, level of autonomy, vehicle type, and regions (North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Rest-of-the-World). The market is witnessing a high growth rate due to the consumer inclination toward safety and automated features in a vehicle. Moreover, the demand for software is further going to increase in the coming years owing to the launch of Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 vehicles, which require more automated features. Further, the growth of the market in North America is the highest, due to strong economic growth, high disposable income, and presence of major OEMs. (REPORT SAMPLE)

Automotive Cybersecurity

The passenger vehicle segment dominated the global automotive cybersecurity market. This is mainly due to the increasing number of connected and autonomous cars in the developed as well as developing regions, which offers connectivity and ADAS features. Moreover, APAC was the largest market in 2018 and is anticipated to maintain its dominance throughout the period 2019-2029 owing to the presence of large number of manufacturing facilities of automotive OEMs and increasing number of connected vehicles in the region. Electric Vehicle Fast Charging System

Governments of numerous countries are creating policies and taking initiatives to increase the deployment rate of electric vehicles. Additionally, the electric bus segment is anticipated to be the potential segment, expected to register the highest CAGR from 2019 to 2029. This is mainly due to the rising number of intra-city electric bus fleets owing to the rising environmental concerns of vehicular emission, further boosting the demand for opportunity charging as well as depot charging. Autonomous Vehicle

The report is a compilation of different segments of the global autonomous vehicle market including market breakdown by level of autonomy, vehicle type, and region. The Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) has defined six levels of automation to classify a system’s sophistication, ranking from 0 to 5.

Level 0: No Automation

At this level, the driver is in control of the entire vehicle and all aspects of driving are entirely manually controlled. 2018 KIA Rio is an example of such a vehicle.

Level 1: Driver Assistance

At this level, the vehicle system can assist with certain functions such as controlling the steering or the vehicle speed. Features such as adaptive cruise control or lane keeping are part of this level of automation.

Level 2: Partial Automation

At this level, the vehicle system is able to control the braking, steering, or acceleration of the vehicle. A driver is present during all times to actively monitor the vehicle's progress and be ready to intervene at any time.

Level 3: Conditional Automation

At this level, the vehicle system is able to detect the environment around the vehicle using sensors such as LiDARs and make informed decisions for the vehicle. Audi Traffic Jam Assist is the only commercialized level 3 auto pilot system developed by Audi for Audi A8.

Level 4: High Automation

At this level, the vehicle can operate without human intervention but only in certain conditions.

Level 5: Full Automation

At this level, the vehicles can operate as driverless vehicles in any road conditions. These vehicles are being developed to be used as robo-taxis, such as Waymo, among others. (REPORT SAMPLE)

Off-Highway Vehicle Telematics

Telematics is the integration of off-highway vehicle with telecommunication and data exchange capabilities. The report compiles a detailed analysis of global off-highway vehicle telematics market in terms of futuristic industrial applications. The report predicts the market scenarios for the period between 2019 and 2029 based on strategies and activities of the OEMs, technology providers, hardware manufacturers, government regulations, and network providers. The report discusses major components of the telematics services such as hardware, platforms, and network in detail to understand the scope of various players in the supply chain of global off-highway vehicle telematics market.
